Game Mechanics:

The World

The game world is made up of a "homestead" area and four separate "wilderness" areas. Each of these areas, or zones, is made using a randomization algorithm which places individual tiles as well as 20 tile clusters or "plates" in an organically sensible way (River Plates will not show up in the middle of the zone without generating a full, flowing river, etc.).

The Homestead

The homestead is completely under the player's control. It is here that they will be able to build structures, till soil, landscape, and live out their lives. The amount of resources in your homestead will dwindle as you build more things and fill the area, driving the player to gather much of his natural resources from the wilderness.

Wild Growth

The Wilderness

Each homestead has four separate wilderness zones attached at its cardinal sides. These zones are made randomly as well, but with more "plate" sections. In the wilderness, the player will find more opportunities to hunt & trap, forage, and gather materials, but he will not be able to do much to the terrain itself (at later stages of the game, players may be able to do minor alterations to wilderness plates). The wilderness is also the primary place to "tame" new species of plants and animals.

Taming

When characters come across new plants and animals, they may be inclined to attempt to domesticate them. With the proper tools, players can catch and train small animals, they can domesticate and hybridize plants, and even steal honeycombs to grow their own beehive. The taming mechanic is introduced from an early stage, and using nothing more than their eyes and hands, characters can begin collecting seeds while they forage and gather in the wilds. Once they have developed their green thumb raising plants from seed in their garden, and they create the proper place to store them, characters can transfer sprouting flowers, bushes, trees, fruits, and vegetables to their homestead. As they build their plant collection, players will begin to see that they have the ability to place their plants wherever they want, crafting an arboreal landscape of their design all over their homestead. Later on, characters will be able to hybridize their own plants, creating interesting, useful, and powerful new strains of common plants (this will be kept VERY sumple so as not to burden long-time players with more confusion rather than simple reward). Domesticating and translocating plants and animals is a great way to enhance your homestead's "wild growth."

The Character

The player will interact with the world using a character of their own design. The character will learn skills, acquire traits, and discover new ways to use tiles and resources. They will also be able to learn or create "recipes" to build new items, objects, and structures. The items are designed to be used for specific results in the game world, while also allowing the the player to customize their character's appearance (for example, wearing a long overcoat while working outside in the cold will help you achieve more and allow you to work longer than if you were wearing a thin jacket, and it will also change the way your character is rendered).

Sanity/Madness
Who knows what exactly this does?
Happiness/Despair
Comfort/Discomfort
Your happiness and comfort levels effect each other, and when you are low on either, fatigue builds more rapidly.
Fatigue
When you become fatigued, physical activity proves more difficult, takes longer, and eventually proves impossible.
Ailments
The character is effected by his environment in many ways. Not all of these ways are positive.

  • Sunburn

In the hottest months, working long hours in the sun carries a danger of sunburn.
While proper attire is recommended to keep the sun off your back, it will not
entirely protect you. There are various plants that can be turned into salves by the
more herbally-minded characters, and at the highest tiers these salves will not only
soothe the effects of sunburn, but even protect the character's skin from sunburn.

  • Heat Stroke

If you do not dress properly for the weather, and toil in the summer fields, you may
find yourself a victim of heat stroke. Heat stroke is a fairly serious ailment if not
dealt with properly. Without attention, it can develop swiftly into a fever. If
experienced too often, there is a distinct possibility of madness.
